The Tavern is Closing

After well over 18 months of development & hard work, we’ve decided to close down The Tavern Roleplay.  The Discord server will remain open, but as of April 16th 2017 the Roleplay side will be closed down.

I’m sure many of you will be upset to see the Tavern go, after time invested in the games with many stories having been told there. That’s why we wanted to give everyone the chance to send off their characters, say their farewells, or venture to new Discord RP adventuring grounds.

The decision for us was difficult to make. Ultimately the Moderation team no longer felt as though they could continue, with jobs, life & the amount of work that the Tavern produces for them. I felt as though I’ve given the project a fair second chance. Earlier last year when we re-launched the Tavern, I was hopeful that we could avoid some of the same issues that we ran into in the past. Unfortunately we couldn’t, and so it’s time for us to say a fond farewell.

Perhaps one day we’ll return to a similar project, but it has no place in my plans for the future of my company. There are other fantastic servers out there but becoming that is not something I’ve ever wanted for EncounterRoleplay. We will remain focused on the most important feature of EncounterRoleplay: Livestreamed Content 6 days a week on Twitch. This will allow us to focus on exciting new projects such as our Kickstarter release and our Charity stream this Friday April 7th in memory of a friend, Evann Todd.

All of the Character sheets & Lore will also be removed on April 30th 2017. Remember that any and all sheets are still available to you via email forever, but should you request any items from the site, please reach: contact@encounterroleplay.com

I’d encourage everyone involved to not take out any feelings of frustration on the Moderation team or other players, as the Mods have been nothing but excellent over the past few months. They deserve a thorough round of applause for the sheer amount of work that they’ve put in, and we’ve been lucky to have them devote their time and attention to the Server. Here’s a few words from the Mods themselves:

FlamingKilla: “I took over moderating the server during a turbulent time and tried my best to guide and steer it in a direction we could all enjoy. I may not have been the most successful at this, and there have definitely been ups and downs but I can say with a 100% certainty that my time moderating has been enlightening and most enjoyable. However due to the time that managing the server requires combined with a new job I feel that I must once more prioritize my real life commitments and so have decided to step down as a moderator of the server.”

AzuryTheKitty: Over my short time of moderating I’ve come to realized it’s tough, but it’s worth it if it had made other roleplayer’s lives easier. I’ve seen the fluxuation of the Tavern RP and how it would have its drama and wonders. I honestly enjoyed every single bit and I will always remember it. Sadly, I will be stepping down from this position due to many issues. May your dice never fail, cause I want to be around to see them.

TreeHuggingDruid: Back in November, I started an adventure as a mod of this server. I witnessed up and downs, left and right, but somehow we managed. I will be stepping down from my position and I hope that you will respect whoever Will chooses to take our places. One storyline ends, another begins.

TemplarWarden: My time as a moderator of this server was a very interesting time. I was challenged in a number of ways and certainly learnt quite a bit. I took up moderating in hopes of being able to help provide an enjoyable and engaging experience for roleplayers. I have certainly enjoyed running some of the roleplay and adventures, creating stories. I hope you all enjoyed things in the same way, because if even a little is a success. I apologise for many of the difficulties I may have brought on and as I step down. I certainly hope you all stay around to enjoy the stream, as well as find other places to enjoy roleplaying.

Thanks so much for the good times with the Tavern Roleplay.

Will

Karaen Henderson

Name: Karaen Henderson

Player: Cherry Hill

Details: 23 year old Half-Elven Sorceress.

Appearance:
Karaen is often known to take an almost narcissistic approach to her appearance, amongst which her long, thick ebon hair is of utmost importance, having been groomed laboriously and imbued with the slightest hint of arcane to give it its otherworldly beauty. Being a half elf, Karaen shares both human and elven features granting her flawlessly smooth skin with only the faintest hint of a blush. Her dark violet eyes are framed by thick eyelashes which curl effortlessly upwards only adding to the darkness of her features which serve to contrast her almond shaded skin.

Equipment:
Clothing: Karaen tends to wear mostly dark clothing that she keeps in her travelers trunk in whichever inn or apartment she has temporary residence in.
Weapon: Aside from the use of her spells, Karaen keeps a small dagger strapped to her thigh on the off chance her magic fails her.
Bags: More often than not this particular self-centered half elf would opt to have her things carried for her but when it does come to her having to actually hold items she would have to use the small dark leather bag which elegantly hangs across her body from the shoulder.

Personality & Concept:
Karaen would give off an aura of narcissism and self-obsession and on the outside it would seem as though she cared little for others but in actual fact in private she wishes to have more friends and perhaps feel more connected with others in the world. Karaen often would donate to charity and try to find the good in all people.
Knowing from an early age she would grow up with magic which was passed down through her prominent bloodline of elves, Karaen did little for herself and would most likely use her magic for simple tasks not limited to cosmetics and cleaning.

Family/Childhood:
Karaen is only one step from being a normal elf if it wasn’t for her father being human and of noble birth. Her upbringing was very sheltered seeing the outside world from the windows of a horse drawn carriage but when she turned 12 years of age it was her duty to practice her families arts of sorcery and arcane as well as her studies in mathematics, language and diplomacy. From her studies she learnt a great deal about the outside world and it’s histories choosing to only aid and progress the world as best as she can before she departs onto the next one.

Under her thick cloak she wears her black leather armor that wraps tightly around her skin exposing her stomach and shows off the curvature of her body which has been more than useful for her assigned assassinations.

Abilities: Axja was born an orphan but raised an assassin.  The guild taught her to hide in plane sight and to disappear once seen.  They kept her educated in languages, the art of killing and intimidation.  It wasn’t until she was enrolled into College of Lore she began to pick up on a few spells that been helpful in aiding her missions.

PC: Xotori Winterdust

Name: Xotori Winterdust

Player: TemplarWarden

Race: Half-Drow

Gender: Male

Age: 24 DoB: 23/1

Concept: Shares his body with his brother’s spirit and channels the power of an ancient Undead.

Appearance:
Xotori’s skin is a pale grey, almostly ghostly in the low light. Short and slender with slightly pointed ears and angular, noble facial structures, he bares far more resemblance to his elvish heritage than his father’s humanity. Regardless, he is seen as incredibly handsome by those not put off by his race or other oddities.

Xotori’s eyes uncontrollably glow a similar deathly white to his skin, very few except the staunchest can look into those eyes for many see the inevitability of death dwelling in them. A pair of red lines are tattooed across each eye. Deep red in stark contrast to his pale skin and pitch black, silken hair.

Personality:
Casual and relaxed, Xotori is laid back about almost everything and weighs the value of almost everything on how it inconveniences him. Killing and stealing or following the law depends entirely on his mood and how complex such features. Generally more in favour of friendliness, openness and fun. He is generally very confident in himself, his brother and his abilities.

Otherwise his actions are driven almost entirely by his brother’s opinion on things. He cares greatly for his brother. Always pushing his brother to step out more and experience life more.

Equipment:
Xotori bares no visible weapons. He does not even need them. He wears a simple black leather vest and loose black leather pants, flaring out at the ankles. He typically wears a black cloak with a hood the regularly hides his face.

At his waist, on his belt is a heavy grimoire, The Bone Tome. A shale grey, rough material is pulled across it as binding. On the covers, bone has been used as edging and the symbol of the Great Unliving One is on the front, as well as the clasp holding it closed. The pages thick and covered with indecipherable arcane text that hurts when the uninitiated living try to read it.

A small raven, Amaris, often rests on a leather pad on his shoulder. It’s feathers are pale grey, not the black Ravens typically are. Its eyes seem to bear an intelligence of an unnatural kind.

Family:
Xullta – The Drow mother of Xotori and Xanis. Whose discovery of the The Bone Tome put her directly at odds with the leadership and ways of the Underdark Zone. Being slowly going mad attempting to decipher the book. She fled to the surface, taking up residence as a mad witch to the towns around.

Xanis – Xotori’s twin brother. Xanis shares his brother’s body, having been trapped there after their mother’s maddened ritual used The Bone Tome to bind Xanis’ soul when he died in birth. Doing the ritual also bound the brothers to the powers of the unnamed Great Unliving One, its unholy powers and undeath flows through them. Xotori is dedicated to getting his brother laid.

Childhood:
Xotori’s early life was not easy. With a mad woman as a mother and no father. Presumably because Xullta disposed of the man. He mostly was free to act on his own and it is probably only due to the pact that he survived. His mother occasionally demanded task and adoration from him, he learn that going along with it hurt less.

At the age of six, he manage to find The Bone Tome without Xullta’s oversight and being able to read it he found the soul of his brother inside him. Essentially raising the other one from mental infanthood. Undoubtedly this is what kept him sane through the later years.

When the brothers were twelve, the surrounding towns and villagers finally could cope with Xullta’s increasingly dangerous madness. A group of adventurers hunted her down. Xotori took the initiative, prompted by their patron, to steal The Bone Tome and flee. Leaving the drow woman without her greatest power. He watched them kill her and burn down his hated home from the distance before heading out into the world.

PC: Xanis Winterdust

Name: Xanis Winterdust

Player: TemplarWarden

Race: Half-Drow

Gender: Male

Age: 24 (18) DoB: 23/1

Concept: His spirit shares his brother’s body and channels the power of an ancient Undead.

Appearance:
Xanis’ skin is a pale grey, almostly ghostly in the low light. Short and slender with slightly pointed ears and angular, noble facial structures, he bares far more resemblance to his elvish heritage than his father’s humanity. His good looks and quiet and gentle attitudes he can be seen as cute by those not put off by his race or other oddities.

Xanis’ eyes uncontrollably glow a gentle pale blue, looking into those depths can chill souls with the gentle inevitability and acceptance of death. A pair of red lines are tattooed across each eye. Deep red in stark contrast to his pale skin. His hair is a silvery white, more akin to the Drow.

Personality:
Xanis is general shy, introverted and nervous around new people. Although he bears a passion and determination when he finds a reason to. He is a good soul, caring about others and often pushes his brother to aid people in need. He has a strong sense of right and wrong. A vehement opposition to imprisonment and oppression.

Much of his outward interactions are prompted by his brother and the ‘older’ Xotori is always looking out for Xanis and offering advice. The rest of the time he interacts with the world through his familiar Amaris. This is usually when he is most open and social around others. Feeling safer in his guise.

Equipment:
Xanis bares no visible weapons.

A small raven, Amaris ,often rests on a leather pad on his shoulder.

Xotori – Xanis’ twin brother. Xanis shares shares his brother’s body, having been trapped there after their mother’s maddened ritual used The Bone Tome to bind Xanis’ soul when he died in birth. Doing the ritual also bound the brothers to the powers of the unnamed Great Unliving One, its unholy powers and undeath flows through them.

Childhood:
Xanis truly came into existence six years after his actual birth. Having been a soul loosely bound to his brother’s body, not a consciousness. He was brought to life when his brother first read the script of The Bone Tome, as if he was a newly born child. His brother effectively raised him, mentally from a child. Without constant access to a body to use and discover.

In the earliest days it was a struggle to suppress each consciousness. By pure will Xotori kept Xanis’ from their mother. It was not easy to teach Xanis basic bodily functions while keeping him hidden and both of them suffered under their mother. Although Xotori did what best he could to protect his brother.

Despite his dislike of their mother, Xanis struggled to face her death and the burning of their home. He faced the unknown with trepidation.

PC: Iska

Name: Iska Túll
Player: Birdvsplane
Details: Half-Elf, Mid-20s, Woman, Bard
Concept: Bard focusing on showy/flashy tricks, some light healing magic.
Personality: Having learned from a young age her musical talent, Iska always felt the desire to perform and be recognized for her skills. As a child, she often competed to be the center of attention and reveled in the joy the music from her violin brought. The greatest joy she’d ever known was seeing the smile on her mother’s face, a woman riddled with illness, each time she performed. Though her basic healing capabilities were able to sustain her for some time, eventually Iska’s mother became too weak to simply rely on her daughter’s magic. Iska was forced to reach out to a less-than-legitimate group and vow her services in exchange for the gold to pay for her mother’s treatment. Due to the stress of balancing the love for her mother but the hate to be someone’s “servant,” Iska often wears her emotions on her sleeve, quick to react or spout the first thing that comes to mind regardless of the repercussions. Iska is determined to become a world-renowned musician, capable of supporting her mother without the help of her shady connections keeping her family in debt.
Appearance: Iska is a relatively short half-elf, standing around 5 ft. 5 inches, with light brown skin. She is adorned with a loose shawl draped over her shoulders where she often keeps her violin, bow, dagger and other such items when not in use. The shawl appears wavy, flowy on her and she moves around and seems to cover some basic leather armor. Her gray-blond hair is shaved incredibly short on the sides and back of her head, while the top appears to shoot diagonally backwards. Often on her shoulder or sleeping in her shawl is a young owl who has remained unnamed. Gifted to her by her mother, Iska wears an amulet with the symbol of the sky deity and cherishes this connection to both her mother and the concept of flying free closely.
Abilities: As an eager performer, Iska regularly attempts to win over crowds with her words and music and feels comfortable attempting to speak with nobles, perform for drunkards, or attempting win the hearts and minds of those ready to oppose her. She’s learned many spells to enhance her musical performances, including a fanciful tone which can create light and a discordant note which could literally blow a crowd away. She has also dabbled (but never mastered) some basic healing magic.
Equipment: Iska carries her violin which she uses to channel all of the magical abilities within her.
