Magic Item (Weapon) – Amenonuhoko

The god Iomedae has given sentience to a glaive called Amenonuhoko, and those who are strong enough of heart and mind to wield it will reap its rewards. Only those warriors whose intentions are pure and who are willing to follow its strict rules are even able to lift it, but they will feel the divine energy of the god when they do. An inscription along the blade reads “Whomever holds this blade, be they worthy, shall have the boon of Iomedae” in celestial.

Amenonuhoko speaks both aloud and telepathically, though only the wielder will hear its voice in their heads. It can speak aloud and read in common and celestial, and its voice is always heard as a whisper. It can “see” of a fashion, perceiving the area around it with darkvision for up to 120 feet. The glaive’s personality is curious and adventurous, encouraging the bearer to visit new and different places and people. It has a fiery side, valuing fairness, equality and self-sacrifice above all else, and is prone to rage at those it feels do not meet its exacting standards. The glaive is fiercely loyal to Iomedae, and will sing her praises to any who will listen, or expel its wrath at any who would defame her.

Requirements to wield the glaive are given in the form of an oath the bearer must swear upon receiving and attuning themselves to it. They are as follows –

I will learn the weight of my weapon. Without my heart to guide it, it is worthless. My strength is not in my weapon, but in my heart.
·         If I lose my weapon, I have lost a tool. If I betray my heart, I have died.
·         I am the first into battle, and the last to leave it.
·         I will not be taken prisoner by my free will.
·         I will not surrender those under my command.
·         I will never refuse a challenge from an equal.
·         I will give honour to worthy enemies, and contempt to the rest.
·         I will suffer death before dishonour
·         I will be temperate in my actions and moderate in my behaviour
·         I will never abandon a companion, though I will honour sacrifice freely given.
·         I will guard the honour of my brethren, both thought and deed, and I will have faith in them.
·         When in doubt, I may force my enemies to surrender, but I am responsible for their lives.

While the weapon does not require its bearer to worship Iomedae, the bearer must at least worship a god with similar values as the goddess. Iomedae is the goddess of righteous valor, justice, and honor. She will not associate or parlay with evil gods or any fiends. Iomedae manifests as a valiant sword-mistress in full plate mail. She wields a long sword and a heraldic shield. Her shield casts a holy light, blinding evil beings, and her aura causes malevolent forces to tremble and falter. Personal cleanliness as well as an honorable demeanor are both very important for her followers. An hour of prayer a day is practiced, in addition to a weekly public worship service.
