tiamatTiamat is the five-headed queen of the evil chromatic dragons. She and her brother Bahamut explore the cosmos and they both created the earth. While her brother made mortals, she secretly opened a tiny portal to the demon realm, giving them access to the world. She has one head for each customary color of chromatic dragon (black, blue, green, red, white), and each head has the powers of a member of the respective race of dragonkind. Her body is a blending of various chromatic dragon forms with an appropriately multicolored hide. Her body also has traits in common with a wyvern, including a long tail tipped with a poisonous stinger. Tiamat has also been known to manifest as a dark-haired human sorceress. Why she sided with the gods when they fought the Old Ones none could say, most attribute it to her brother Bahamut’s influence, others speculate that she finds the current pantheon of gods easier to manipulate and conquer than the old ones. Bahamut seems blind to her desire to conquer all, and when pressed will simply explain that balance is necessary in the universe. She was vicious but effective in the war, and won the grudging respect of a few of the other gods. Tiamat is a greedy, vain, and arrogant goddess who embodies all the strengths of evil dragonkind, and few of their weaknesses. She never forgives a slight. Although she is not averse to razing the occasional village, her true schemes are subtle and hard to detect. She has been compared to a puppeteer manipulating her creations from within shadows.

The ceremonial garb of a humanoid priest of Tiamat is a form-fitting suit of scales, and these are well-guarded and expensive suits, cherished by the few priests and paladins capable of acquiring them.

They believe that rival deities of all creeds and from every pantheon are inherently tyrannical. They seek only power, at any cost, despite their honeyed words. The Dragon Queen is the only being powerful enough to defy the gods and overthrow their despotic rule, as demonstrated by her overthrow of the Old Ones Her followers work tirelessly toward the day when Tiamat will banish the gods and unite the world under her rule. Toward this goal, follow her commands unquestioningly and be willing to sacrifice yourself in her service. To overthrow the gods requires power, and power is acquired through the accumulation of wealth and magic. Power demands respect. Chromatic dragons everywhere are to be venerated as the spawn of the Dragon Queen and paid homage. When Tiamat assumes her throne, her draconic children shall serve her as dukes, and her clergy as their mortal vassals. Worshipers build no temples, only shrines in hidden places, with expensive and well-made statues of Tiamat herself, usually made of huge carved gems in each of the colours. Usually the artist chosen to create these statues is forced to make it in secret and murdered afterward, their ashes blended in to incense burned on these altars. She has no holy days but any victory or new power or spell learned is celebrated with worship at her shrine, giving Tiamat credit and praise for her help in their success, and ensuring she is well praised and venerated. Tiamat loves those who compliment her, and will take revenge on any of her followers who slight her in any way. Those known to be worshipers of Tiamat are not trusted, so followers will keep their true loyalties secret, some even pretending worship of other gods.
